Easy to read aloud in the primary grades. Students will pick up on the repeating line, "You can count on me" which serves to reveal one of the main ideas in this book--that Katherine Johnson played a critical role in the success of NACA/NASA's early space exploration. I'd read this aloud to students for enjoyment and then read aloud again and pose questions for students to turn and discuss in small groups. Questions like -*How does the author show that Katherine Johnson was determined to become a professional mathematician?*What were obstacles Johnson (and her family) faced? How did she overcome those?*Would you describe Johnson as perseverant? Why?*How does the author's repeated use of the response "Count on me" help develop a big idea in this book?*How do the illustrations contribute to understanding the details in the text?ANOTHER STRENGTH of this book is the author's explanation of the kind of mathematics that Johnson did for NASA. I've read several books now about the "computers" at NASA, women who did mathematics for the agency (in its early days) and the authors frequently fail to explain the mathematics or the purpose of the mathematics (other than "it helped NASA") in a way that young children can understand. Young children may wonder why 2+2 is a big deal, you know? Becker, the author, and Phumiruk, the illustrator, have a great two page layout explaining very simply how and why math was helpful in sending a rocket into space. They use the analogy of throwing a ball up--"But as it runs out, the ball's path curves back toward the ground. Where it lands depends onwhat angle it was thrown and how high and how fast it flew.Because math is a kind of language, Katherine could ask those questions--how high wouldthe rocket ship go and how fast would it travel?--using numbers..."With Becker & Phumiruk's simple explanation and illustration, students in the primary grades can begin to grasp the value of Johnson's work. My children both saw Hidden Figures and my son said this book just as fascinating. The pictures and text go together well. Nice to see more math-related picture books for children. This one is a favorite in our household now.

It's hard to write a picture book biography that's this simple and true, but Helaine Becker nails it, and Dow Phuniruk's illustrations are the perfect complement. Should be in every classroom and library.

I wanted more of a manual of labs that is more real world. I wanted labs that would give a situation with all the details and even walk me through the steps in terms of the goal of each step and I then had to make that goal happen from my knowledge. This is strictly paint by the numbers and tell you what to do and type at every step without requiring any networking knowledge and just the ability to read and type in what you are told to.

Astro Inklings is absolutely beautiful! You get 2 copies of each of the 12 zodiac signs, all done in Tanya's Inkling fashion. Each girl has been drawn to represent the sign. For example, the Taurus (sign of the bull) girl is wearing a cap with bull horns and the Gemini girls are twins. (see pics I've enclosed) As usual with the Createspace paper, I always have something underneath the page I'm working on. If you liked the 1st 3 Inklings books, you'll love this one!

I love these books! So many of my books have pages that take days for me to color because they're so intricate, but the Inklings pics color up quickly and still look beautiful. I took off a star because the paper is thin, but my pencils take to it nicely, and they are single-sided. I've heard that you can get nicer paper if you buy from the artist's Etsy shop. I bought this book because I loved Inklings 2 so much and this doesn't disappoint. Please note that there are 2 copies each of the signs of the zodiac, so 24 pages to color, but only 12 different images. If you enjoy coloring fantasy pictures of women, you'"LK love this book!

Tanya Bond never disappoints! I love her artwork and these AstroInklings are just fabulous! I have another of her books and want to get the rest of them! Excellent book with beautiful Inklings to color with every astrological sign! I recommend ALL here books!

This is a beautiful coloring book. I have all her coloring books, the sketches are fantastic and gives you the freedom express your inner artistic into the images and have it come to life. I would have given this book 5stars if the paper quality is better.

A very unique and fun coloring book, all the Zodiacs are done nicely, you could tell just by looking at them which sign they are. Beautiful drawings, would recommend this book.

Cheap paper thin but the drawing ladies are beautiful some pages are difficult to follow the lines very confusing , half of the book is a duplicated of the drawings .

This book had beautiful pages that just make you want to color. Started in the book the same day I received it and have worked on it every day since.

Beautiful , artfully done pictures leaving plenty of room to color eyes and do makeup and neck shading and blending can really be a work of art.

Our family has a few airplane books in our home library, but none of them go through the sequence and details to the extent of this book of the process of before, during and after the actual plane ride and the sights and happenings occurring around airline travel. This 8 1/2 x 11 inch size coloring book has large and bold pictures and bold text. It has smooth pages for coloring or to use exclusively for reading. It has 30 pages which is a bit long but it is very detailed commenting on packing, getting to the airport, checking in, security, boarding, safety, airline activity (air traffic control, baggage, fuel, cockpit), takeoff, on board activity, landing, and arrival events. I was able to skip or comment on the pages that didn't apply or were too long to read word for word for my 2 1/2 year old. Overall a good reading and coloring book to prepare your child for airline travel and to refer to it during travel if needed (i.e. safety review such as the need to put on the seat belt).

Such a cute book!!! We're going on a trip overseas next month and got one each for my 5 and 4 year old. We read it together and they can't wait to color it once we get on the plane! Perfect since it gives them something to do while we fly! Definitely buy this book! It goes through the whole flying process.

This coloring book does a great job giving an age appropriate review of the flying process. My kids (6 & 7) enjoyed reading this before their first flight, and coloring it during the flight.

We bought this for a trip across the Atlantic with a 5 and 3 year old. They each had their own and utilized it but it really is a basic book without a lot of wow factor .

The book is cute, just right for my 4.5 year old grandson but the text is heavily dominated with how important the male figures are from the Daddy to the pilots (both male). I actually edited the book with a marker making one of the pilots a woman and added some text about what Mommy did to get everyone ready for the trip.

This book was purchased to help prepare my granddaughter for her first vacation to visit Nana at the beach! It was also great keeping her busy on the airplane!

My great-niece and -nephew have to fly to visit their grandmother and aunts (me and my other sister), and I thought they might enjoy a book about plane trips. It has pictures that are easy for little hands to color, and cover most aspects of a plane ride. My only complaint is that both of the children in the coloring book are male, and I think a boy and girl would have been better. Still they are both enjoying it, as far as I know, although my great-nephew isn't much at coloring yet.

This is perfect even for kiddos that have traveled lots of times! I got it for my sons 3rd plane ride & it was awesome!!!! We read it the night before our trip and he colored in it mid flight:)
