I've purchased several books in this series and my son and I love the series as a whole. However, quality varies widely from title to title and this is not one of the better ones. It is okay but I can't really recommend it. The writing ranges from poor to mediocre, there is an overemphasis on goldfish, and it's not very informative.

I can't speak highly enough of the "Let's Read and Find Out Series." My two and four year old boys love to read them. Just enough info to be interesting and instructive for two, three and four year olds.We have an aquarium nearby, and after reading this book my three year old began appreciating the fish as complex animals instead of glancing at them as he ran by to the next tank.

This book is very informative about fish. It is great for 2nd graders and up. It isn't a story but more like information with lots of nice pictures. I recommend this book to everyone. It doesn't explain personally what it must be like to be a fish but just talks about fish and where they live and how they breathe etc.

Students love the story.

This is an excellent book to introducing the levels of classification for living things. This book explored the physiology of fish in language that young children can understand. The facts are presented in a way that is not overwhelming to children. The illustrations are great and they really show what its like to be a fish. I have used this book with my preschoolers and they love it.

Yay

Cute book. I liked all the info except it talks about what temp. to keep your fish tank at.......and I used it for a preschool students. Way over their heads.Overall, good info, realistic, and cute!

Great book, our 2.5 year old loves it.

A lot of information, some recipes and humour. Covers the BIG three nordic countries: Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Highly recommend.

Had me giggling from the introduction - a fantastic, easy read and delightful gift for anyone with Scandi-roots. Makes for a beautiful coffee table book or decor when you're done reading but I encourage you to pass it along to someone else and share the love. There is light-hearted information about everything from food, wardrobe, sports, HYGGE, coffee, relationships, how to properly Sauna and a section on IKEA that is especially funny.

I loved this book. As a second generation Swede, it helped me understand my restrained, somewhat enigmatic family. The author's humor was wonderful, and made me laugh out loud every time I picked it up. I am ordering it today to give to a friend who wants to learn more about his Danish heritage.

A bit thin for the price entertaining light read with good recipes but not much depth however does give some insight as to Scandinavian identity

This charming book is delightful from beginning to end. A must-read for anyone curious about Scandinavian culture or planning a visit there. The author’s sense of humor comes through on every page.

A wonderful eye opening look at life in Scandinavia the people the traditions the food.

Super informative and basically tells you all about their culture and some insight of heritage. I hope they make a second one! I’m a big fan of learning about other cultures and would love more! Also lots of lovely pictures and illustrations!

Very nice book and great for an introduction to Scandi living. I learnt a lot of new things. I also recomend Nordicana to complete Scandilife 101.

I really wanted to like this book. The story has a good premise and it was interesting to me when I saw the description. It looked like something that hadn't been done before. And that's the best part. The story as a concept is really great. Three werewolves who don't want to be werewolves have to learn to deal with this new life they have. And for an independently-published book, it has impeccable grammar and punctuation. I only caught one typo near the end, so kudos to the author for the editing! It moves SO FAST though. Too fast. You want a book to keep you in the action, but the story kinda goes from "Oh no, we're werewolves" to "yes we understand how this works" in the first couple chapters. There's little learning experience. The innate understanding doesn't feel natural, even with Amber's backstory. I feel like something is missing here. Problems are introduced and solved within a few pages, too, not just at the beginning, but through the whole book, which leaves little intrigue.I feel like with all the material here, the book could have been split into two volumes, adding a good deal more to each and slowing the narrative down just a little.Splitting the book might have also helped me connect to the characters a little more. There's little meta that really helps me get into their minds, and in the end, I don't particularly feel a connection to any of them. The book relies on rejection very heavily as a plot device to make the reader pity the characters, but there's too much of it. All the main characters are estranged from their families, either from the beginning or through the book, and this plot point just feels cobbled together rather than important to the story.Anyway... The story is good, but it needs a bit of work with pacing and character development.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Misfit Pack. It takes the werewolf storyline in a fresh and interesting direction. None of the members of the pack chose to become werewolves, it was just something that kind of happened to them. Now this small group of total strangers suddenly has to learn to bond together to navigate and survive the world of supernaturals. The characters themselves are well thought out and well developed. They grabbed my interest right away and held onto it for the duration of the story. The world building is also top notch. The scenery and the various groups that inhabit it feel natural and believable. There is plenty of action and it's nicely paced. There are also plenty of unanswered questions to keep my interest for the next story. I would definitely recommend Misfit Pack.

For a novel with a pace that moves like a tornado through a trailer park, the characters are remarkably well done. The plot hits the characters repeatedly about the head and body in a frenzy of life altering events and yet the author manages to weave their history, personality, and desires into the whirlwind without it seeming like a cheap coat of paint on a card board cut out. This is not the story for anyone who likes to stop and savor the scents of the garden, or smell the damn roses. Nope, this is dodging the debris in the tornado. Overall, the characters are solid enough to carry the story. Consistent, likable, and you want them to survive from the moment you meet them. The plot is simple enough to be the storm shelter in the tornado but without any real villains - the "bad guys" aren't really bad and I found the "villains" to be more speed bumps that real villains. The whole novel revolves around the characters coming together for survival against the impersonal systems that society has in place to deal with people like them. Only yesterday they were completely different people. But today, they are different and now they have to play by a different set of rules, and of course nobody bothered to write those rules down. This is the first book in the series, and I liked the second book as well.

What happens when a redhead, a pink-haired lawyer, and a homeless teen all go to a concert? Sounds like the beginning of a bad joke, right? Well, it's not, it's a new series by Stephanie Foxe and a real treat! It is geared for teen readers but it not Potterville! Werewolves, witches and mayhem aside, there is danger with blood, obstacles to overcome and a demon with a sense of humor. There is also humanity, caring, stepping in and "owning it" that just isn't seen as much today that was much appreciated by this first time reader of hers. Really looking forward to the next!

This is a great book.It is a fantastic read, and a great ‘opener’ to a new series. If you love the Dresden Files, but are wondering what to read while Jim Butcher writes his next book, this might be the series for you.The opening premise is simple: three individuals are all bitten by a Werewolf while attending a concert. Now that they are werewolves, they have to learn how to fit in to the structure of werewolf society. The (previously) strangers are now bound together into a pack because of the events at the concert. Unfortunately, under shifter law, their actions are illegal. This pack of misfits must now navigate supernatural political intrigue, whilst trying to survive various attacks on their employment, their housing, and their very lives! Each character is well defined, and likeable. Each character has flaws as well as strengths, and each has an interesting back story that may lead to interesting plot lines in future books. There are a number of interesting and arcane questions that are posed (but not answered) in this book. Obviously, these questions will be resolved in future books within the series. I’m already waiting for the next book in the series, to see how the author will answer these questions.I LOVE this book!!! I don’t want to wait for the next book - I want to read it right now!If you like books with a supernatural theme, and a deft sense of humour, then purchase this book right now!!!!!

Like it or not war has been a part of human society since the Stone Age and it continues to this very day. 5000 years of some of the most legendary weapons ever used as well as the warriors who wielded them. From the legions of Rome to the modern day Navy Seals a truly fascinating look

This is not an in-depth text about a particular weapon or type of weapon. It is a beautiful, & informative book. The book labels the weapons by name, place of origin, time period, & sometimes breaks down the components of a particular weapon. It covers everything from prehistoric weapons to modern guns & bayonets, everywhere from Asia to Africa to Europe. The binding seems like it will last for a good while - I first saw this book in my local library, before purchasing it - it was in very good shape.Oh, for those who are also considering "Knives and Swords" (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/075665646X/ref=oh_o03_s01_i02_details), you should be forewarned that they are in many ways the same book. I purchased both, not realizing that they were from the same publisher. Knives & Swords has nothing that isn't in this book (so far as I can tell) but is a slightly sturdier, more coffee-table type binding. Of course, Knives & Swords does not the missile weapons from this book - including guns. I would recommend buying this book of the two.

I bought this as a gift for my sister's bf. He is really into weaponry and this book is fantastic. For the price you get a LOT of book. The book itself is pretty large and it is chock full of beautiful color photographs and artwork. I am not really into this stuff but found myself flipping through it for a good hour before I wrapped it. This is the perfect gift for someone into weapons and their history.

As always DK has come through with a book that is profusely illustrated with hundreds of color photos and diagrams, this book, like all the other DK books, is amazing. I bought it because I am interested in Medieval arms and armor, but it is just fabulous having a book that covers every kind of arm and amor from the beginning to the present. If you are interested in military history or just history than I would certainly purchase this book.

This is a three in one review on the truly splendid books, Warrior, Weapon, and Battle. Or more formally: Warrior, A visual History of the Fighting Man. Weapon, A visual History of Arms and Armor. Battle, A visual Journey through 5000 Years of Combat. They can be reviewed together because of their kinship in sharing the same visual concept and the same supremely expert author, R. G. Grant. No pilgrim, Grant is the author of over 20 books, most on the subject of conflict, implements of war and the fighting man.All three books are wonderfully delicious for those of us whose DNA inclines us toward the history of arms, armament and the men who have carried them. These books are chock full of photographs, charts, maps and illustrations on every page to beautifully compliment and expand upon a tightly written, no fluff text. And this text is extremely well researched. In the spirit of full disclosure, I must confess that I have not read each of these three books in their entirety. I've had them for only 2 weeks and after scanning them from start to finish, I am now devouring them slowly, page by page, like a monk with a holy book, meting out tasty morsels judiciously. I want this to last a long time.Although, the books overlap to a degree, they are not repetitious in any negative way as they each have their own exclusive focus.Warrior takes on the subject of the individual fighting man from 600 BCE to the present, from the Greek Hoplite, the Samurai, Zulu, Mongol bowman, American rifleman to the modern western infantry and special forces...and almost everything in between.Weapon focuses on just about every kind of implement of a fighting man's arsenal of killing tools from Assyrian spears to the AK 47. In some cases, replicas have been photographed but mostly it's the often crusty, old real thing. The photography is first rate. As in all three books, the text and illustrations are intermingled in such an artful way as to make each page a visual smorgasbord.Battle covers the first recorded major battle which is between the Canaanites and the Egyptians at Meiddo and takes us through conflicts in every age all the way to modern times. Its focus is on the Generals, the strategies, the troops and their weapons.Battle was published by DK in 2005, Weapon in `05 and Warrior in `07. Highly recommended, all three.

I bought this for my son for Christmas. He's ten and loves to watch Pawn Stars. Every time someone comes in with an old gun or mysterious looking weapon, my son perks right up. He loves all the information about it, the look of them, all of it.This book is beautiful. I do wish we had it in hard cover because it's seeing a lot of use, but hey, that's what it's for! It has big, clean pages and not too much stuffed on each, like a lot of Kingfisher books do. The photography is great, you really feel like you could almost reach into the book and pull out the sword, pistol, whatever.I highly recommend this book for any lover of history, weaponry, etc. I also recommend it as a gift because between the cover, the heft, the size of the book and the amazing photography, anyone you think might like it, would like it.

A great starter reference. As a writer I always need to do research. There is nothing more important than being able to visualise something like a sword or a gun and see its details. This book is beautifully laid out with lovely pictures and makes a good starter reference.

Overloaded with information and crammed with color, this is a definitive book on a topic never far from humanity's origins. The print may be a bit miniscule, but the overall concept is dynamic as all hell.
