Very disappointed with this book, most of the maps are near impossible to read. I tried a sheet magnifier and a dome magnifier and still could not read them. I scanned about 6 maps with a book scanner at 600 dpi, some I could read better, some were still difficulate to read. Wish I had waited for the reviews on this book, I preordered 3 weeks ago. This is the second book involving genealogy that I have ordered and the text was too small to read.

On the positive side -- this book is a jewel for the genealogist. It contains a variety of U.S. maps for the various states during the period of 1790 to 1900. If you are doing research on a family, it is a great tool to show how they could have lived in six counties and several states during a 150 year period without ever moving. The only issue I have is that the maps are so small that you need a strong magnifying glass in order to read the details, The quality of the image is excellent but the printing is quite tiny sometimes.The book also provides a list of key dates for each state thereby facilitating the process of placing your family within the social framework of the time.

I am very disappointed in this book as it is not as presented in the descriptions. The promo paragraphs spoke of how useful historical maps are in tracing Ancestors. They allow a researcher to determine where to look for records by showing the reshaping of the boundaries of the towns, counties, states, etc. so searches may be made in the correct jurisdiction for each time as the lines changed during the growth and reshaping of the nation. That feature was pretty much nullified as the formating of the book circumvents the purpose for publishing it.I have no complaint regarding the information contained in this book but in the presentation of the information.One example of the poorly thought out formating is that several of the maps which are spread over two pages have been printed without center margins so the maps themselves run right to the center of the book where it is bound so you lose a significant amount of the center of the map because it curves all the way down into the binding thereby making it impossible to view the center portion of the maps. I guess it doesn't matter if your main interests lie on either the East or West coasts as those regions are visible, however, if you are interested in following the tracks of your ancestors through the middle 20 % of the country don't bother to look at these maps because you cannot view any of the center portion of it unless you are willing to cut the binding of the book so the pages lay flat. My main complaint is that since the book is suppose to allow you to see how boundaries have changed I expected the individual area maps to be large enough to actually read and study. Nope! The maps which I think are probably of the most interest are the very early maps, as the colonies were forming and growing and changing. Yes, they have been included in the volume and comprise a significant portion of the content however most have been crowded 3 or 4 to a page so that the printing on them which identify the places is teeny tiny and much of the secondary text is very light. I couldn't decipher much of the print even using a very strong magnifying glass. One would think since the historic maps are the reason for this compilation they would have limited them to one or at the most two to a page so that the were able to be enlarged enough to be of use. In short this purchase was a complete and total waste of my money as I bought it as an aid to genealogical research. Ms or Mr Dolan, I think you had a great idea that sadly has been rendered useless for the proposed use by squeezing what should be wonderful visual resources into too little space. I am sad because I actually had anticipated making this purchase for a few years Had I been able to browse this in a physical store I would not have made the purchase.

A little disappointed in this collection. Good intent but the maps are too small to see any particular detail. It is of no use in my genealogy research.Plus I waited several months to get it.

Beautiful book but the maps I needed were not readable, too small. I tried a magnifying glass and it still did not work for me. The one Virginia map I was most interested in was dated 1795 which was perfect but could not delineate the county or state boundaries.

The maps are small - so get a magnifier. But they are really helpful in showing quickly how a state has changed over time and also how the US has changed over time. There are even some special interest maps in the back which help with specific populations - foreign, Native American tribes - and other special interests. I am working on genealogy and family history from the very beginnings of the Colonies in the 1600's up to the present. These maps help to get a better idea of where people where and how they were moving.

It is a very good collection of maps, but .... Many of the maps are into the binding. Reading of the maps is very difficult due to the reduced size from the original. I would have been best to buy a PDF version so the maps could be enlarged. Some maps are two pages wide and due to the tight binding, impossible to read at the seam. The cropping of some maps so they would fit, e.g., Alabama 1852, page 35, is a disappointment. Again, a PDF file would have been ideal.

As I didn't read the reviews beforehand this item cost me $5 to return. It is a very high quality publication HOWEVER. As others have noted. The maps are all but worthless beyond being a pretty picture in the book. Many are the size of about 2/3 a 3x5 index card, for the entire state. Summary: a pretty picture book of history maps for the states but not much legible on the maps themselves.

This is very helpful in translating the technical jargon my dentist uses. When he touches a particular tooth then starts quoting numbers, I'll knowwhat the name of this particular tooth is. Now if I only knew what his number utterances meant. He could possibly be expressing his affection for his recording nurse.

Wish they still made these charts at a reasonable price. Unfortunately I have a few on anatomy, just not dental anatomy.

I purchased this for kids, and they were fascinated with the names of the teeth, in which order they come, which age, and when do one gets adult teeth. Lots of details on this double sided laminated map. The illustrations are clear. You get to learn a lot, without feeling overwhelmed.

Having just returned from Iceland, I think I first have to confess that I used this book very little. However, that isn't too say that I didn't do a fair amount of hiking. Indeed, in my 12 days on the island I hiked 8 of them for what probably averaged out to around 6-8 miles per day.So why didn't I use the book? Mainly because it inundates the reader/user with details that aren't especially useful or helpful and is geared towards those who are venturing to Iceland for very specific multiple day hiking trips.Breaking it down a little, the hikes generally provide rather colorful turn-by-turn-style directions that sound something like this (paraphrasing): "Hike for about a mile on the winding crushed volcanic stone path, passing two open fields usually occupied with sheep behind a wire fence. After the small barn the path will become steeper until you reach the first grove of shrubs, then turning left into a series of hills." At first glance this level of detail seems very impressive, but unless one is actually holding and reading the book while actually on the hike (or has a photographic memory), it's simply not helpful. Moreover, typically absent are points such as elevation gain per mile, how to access the trail head, how weather conditions affect the quality of the trail, appropriate pacing for sections of a hike, etc. Indeed, the author himself provides insight into his writing process and tells us that he writes his reviews more or less in real time by carrying an iPad with him in order to provide his every observation and make us feel as if we were there, but in reality he does so at the expense of the truly useful information mentioned above.The second issue I had with the book was the manner in which each hike/series of hikes was compartmentalized. For many areas of the country, the author has listed a handful of longer, multi-day backpacking trip broken into daily lengths. For example, one "hike" may be 55 miles long in total, broken into 8-ish mile portions over 7 days. Sometimes sections of these hikes can be done individually, but more often they are linear (i.e. you start one place and end up 50-something miles away in need of a ride), meaning that unless you intend to do the whole 50-ish mile path, it is very hard to use the information provided. Likewise, because of the focus on these long hikes, very few day hikes are included. Indeed, for a country as vast and replete with trails as Iceland, this 300+ page book provides maybe 40 total hikes, with large sections of the country skipped entirely as though no hiking opportunities (short or long) existed in the area at all.Add to these issues shortcomings such as poor overall organization and maps lacking useful levels of detail (or even recommendations on where to find well-scaled maps of the area) and one is left with a rather frustrating volume of hard to access trails and lackluster information about said trails.For me personally, I think the money is better spent on a subscription to something like AllTrails.com, which amazingly has almost every trail in the country marked, often with users who have recorded their own hikes in the area giving useful directions, advice, and even providing photos. Essentially, all one has to do is zoom in on an area of Iceland that looks interesting or search for hikes in the area and the website provides access to detailed topographic and/or satellite maps with well-marked paths and lengths of various loops/sections already marked in miles. In comparison, this is vastly more helpful and expansive in its options and access to Iceland's true bounty of hiking trails.Bottom line: unless you want a smattering of information on a collection of multi-day backpacking "hikes," your money and effort are better spent elsewhere.

This book is intended for people who travel around Iceland by bus (and the busses there are pretty nice). However, I drove a 4x4 around the country and found most of the hikes completely useless because they were one-way (from one town to another). It would have been nice if the author had provided turnaround points for those who always wanted to return to the starting point.

Turns out there are lots of opportunities for walking, hiking, and trekking in Iceland. This Cicerone "Walking and Trekking Iceland" book has lots of information. The reader, depending on their experience on the ground in Iceland, may have to take an active part in figuring out what he or she can use.The guide divides Iceland into geographic areas, and apportions the text on that basis. The newcomer to Iceland may have to work with a larger scale map in one hand in order to understand where hikes are located in relation to roads and towns. The actual trail descriptions vary in their level of detail; being an alert traveler and asking questions of the locals is strongly implied.The book has a very informative introduction to Iceland that should be of interest to any visitor planning to operate outside Reykjavik. It includes a nice selection of color photographs that provide a sense of the terrain, some of which is quite spectacular, and potentially dangerous for the unwary. For those possessed of the physical resources for multi-day treks, this book may have exactly what you need. Otherwise, recommended as a decent starter planning resource.

Um... just ok. I will say we car camped around Iceland. Expecting to do the "walking" trails. Most of the trails we could do in a day were in the Rough Guide or Lonely Planet or park maps. I guess I was expecting "something everyone else wasn't on" or loops... So we really didn't need this at all. It might be good for multiday "backpacking" in Iceland.

We have not used the book yet (trip is August 2016) but I have a lot of hiking guide books and this one has great detail, good maps and is made of quality materials. Can't wait to use it!

Difficult to use, the maps did not tie into local areas well.

I took two stars from my review because the book is more of a travel journal than a guide. It is a refreshing new idea though and, as a Brazilian, I appreciate it. Perhaps I have been spoiled by travel guides that display maps and list a few more options on places of interest. Perhaps my expectations were high when the book mentioned eco turism in all five regions of Brazil. I was hoping for more on southern Brazil, but the adventure stopped at the first of the three states of this region. It isn't a Brazil travel guide, but a guide to travelers interested in the same places the author visited. It is very specific.

Great guide for Brazil. I wish that I had this 2 years ago when I visited.

I've been to Brazil before, but there's a lot in here I didn't know. If you want to get away from the usual tourist trail, this book is for you.

Great little book! Tons of amusing little insights on hidden gems all over Brazil - super excited to put what he says into action!

A fun read that has some good information you wouldn't find in traditional travel guides. Richard is clearly an interesting chap and I look forward to his next book.

Such a wonderful book with great firing schedules. Whether you are a hobbyist or serious glass artist, this is one book you should always keep on your library.I have been doing fused glass for over 20 years and I love Randy Wardell and all of his publications. I think the majority of my books are by him.Wonderful information!

Best beginning fusing book I've found! The schedules alone make it worth the price, but it's loaded with good information and tips in layman's terms. Highly recommended!

Although this book largely focuses on the music industry it is extremely valuable for establishing a successful career in other fields such as the sports industry.This book, unlike many music career books, brings a focus on other music career jobs beyond performing artist opportunities such as musicians, vocalists, bands, and singer-song writers.I appreciated the author sharing his personal journey to music career success and his candid description of the detours and obstacles he encountered. His experiences obviously led to the preeminent career management system he offers to the reader.The authorâ€™s five rules and ten steps to success in the music industry are priceless. I would recommend, at a minimum, all high school and higher education music curriculums include this book in their reading list. Moreover, I encourage music teachers and professors to incorporate the authorâ€™s principles in their lesson plans and career counseling activities. Finally I commend the author for offering his availability via online and voice communications.

I found this to be a very informative, insightful and helpful read from the author who has lived the experience of having a music career for most of his life. While being in a band or dreaming of being a top performer on The Voice may not be the focus of this book, the author lays in out in numerous charts just how many different types of entertainment jobs there are to be had, the duties required and salary ranges. Use the internet sparingly in your job search; seek out people instead. The writing style is friendly and effective and you get the sense he is sincerely there for you--even gives out his phone number. A well-worth it, not overwhelmingly long read that seems like an essential piece of your toolbox if this is a path you're interested in pursuing.

I made a mistake buying this book, a starting guitar player looking for live performance tips and advice as a side hobby and instead found a music industry guide. The book is geared towards different entry points for the music field as a profession and it actually helped me to better understand what I love as a hobby. The funny thing is that I'm a programmer/anayst/manager/whatever as needed and this book actually works great also for the whatever professions out there - pull out the music and insert programming code for the next great widget/ analytic report for the product type target company produces/ possible health care resources that would be great for the quality department of a hospital, etc.. I realized I had made a mistake in the purchase after I started to read but since I paid, I'm stubborn and I had to read - then got interested, then impressed and found it actually helped me understand much about the industry behind my guitar I love to play. I still need to find my guitar tips and tricks for live performances but this book is well worth the price and more, the time taken to understand what you are reading!

This book was a quick read for me on a plane ride.Â I haveÂ 3 kidsÂ spread from high schoolÂ to middle schoolÂ to elementary school who are all very into music. This was a great read on the types of careers and options they have out there.Â The author does a greatÂ job level setting you up front that if you are trying to have a career as a musician or singer in a stadium this is not the book for you. If you do want to make a good living in the music industry this seems llikeÂ the perfect read and I am getting it for my middle school and high schooler immediately. I like that the author has real world experience and was able to detail and share a couple of mistakes that he made which we all do from time to time.Â Â There were quite a few things you can do in the industry that I did not know about at all and having salary data was also an eye opener for some of the different things they can do to make great money!Â I think the best target audiences for this book is a high school or college student orÂ anyone who is on the outside and really would like to be working in the industry.Â Â

David Ruttenberg provides a specific action plan in pursuing a career in creative, interesting areas of the music industry. He shares his career choices, experiences, and mistakes with vulnerability, honesty, and humor; it is so valuable to be able to learn from his interesting journey. He clearly defines how to differentiate ourselves from others. So many of us rely on the web to find out information- this is information that we can all access; however, Ruttenberg shows us how to make personal contacts so that we can understand the industry, companies, and needs of the companies in a way that the general public does not. We then can learn about our creative area of interest from the people who have their fingers on the pulse of the company and the industry. I am so appreciative of the ubiquitous wisdom in this book.

If you are just starting your career, or you want to make a career change, then this book is a tremendously helpful resource to guide you in every aspect of that search. Whether you are in the music business or not, the author offers sound and wise advice for ANYONE in ANY field in a clear and concise manner. In that process, he does not oversimplify- indeed, there is a LOT that needs to be done to land your dream job, but he lays out an organized and well thought out road map for you to follow. He will make you truly think about what you want, what that looks like and really means. Ruttenberg details the means to get what you want and what tools will make you stand out from the crowd so you are much more likely to be the preferred, if not only, candidate for the job of your dreams.It's an easy and quick read- though the homework will take lots of time, energy, and thought. For me the title of this book grabbed me and compelled me to purchase because it alluded to the truth that no matter where you are in life, the things you've done or mistakes you've made you still have value, you still have purpose and your life has meaning. You are not here by accident. Instead your life is the intentional will of God. As I began reading this story my heart and emotions were intertwined with every page I turned. I was able to relate to the young lady he met during a chance encounter. See God uses the simple things to confound the wise. Simple can be so impactful. While he was feeling alone she was covering him in prayer and going before the thrown on his behalf. It truly shows us that even when we feel alone we never really truly are. God will never leave us nor forsake us; there remains a ram in the bush. I related to him giving away everything and taking care of everyone else only to be used financially and given nothing in return. Not even the benefit of the doubt. I related to the addiction as I lived that nightmare from the other side. I felt as if portions of my life were unfolding in this book as I turned the pages. I wholeheartedly recommend purchasing this book its an absolute must read that I can promise you won't wish to put down. Finally to one of my favorite authors I say Thank You. Thank you for your courage, your transparency and most of all your soul and spirit you so generously barred for all the world to see. You may never know the magnitude of the impact you have made. My advice : Never give up on God as he will never give up on you. Always pray at the midnight hour. Just as God worked a miracle for Paul & Silas he will do the same for you.

I love to read novels based on true stories, and when Iâ€™d heard Mr. Weaver wrote Broken Crayons Still Color, I purchased it to read in my spare time. With a light schedule today, I delved into his novel this morning and completed it moments ago. This was a deep story that touched on friendship, family and purpose. The realness of it touched the depths of my soul and I felt Mr. Weaverâ€™s pain throughout his journey. Some people are all for you, as long as you have something to give. When the well runs dry, many will scatter like roaches and leave you alone. The good thing is, Mr. Weaver knows heâ€™s not alone. He knows that God has his back, and continuing to have faith will enable him to overcome the demons he still faces. Iâ€™ve heard so many things about this author, and being an author myself, I know what it feels like to spill your truth. It is a healing process for sure, but the most beautiful thing of all is being able to inspire readers and touch them through the gift of writing. You did that, Mr. Weaver, and I hope that as time passes, as you continue to heal yourself, as you focus on reaching your highest potential, that you do not forget to pat yourself on the back and give yourself the credit you deserve. Continue to live your best life, and know that Iâ€™m ANOTHER black woman, rooting for all black men to win! Take a bow on writing a superb story.

When you do that, the type of woman you need will be drawn to you. Hopefully you've gone to rehab. I enjoyed this book in read it faster than I usually do. Poor Devin the walls all crumbled for him at one time. In part due to his own mistakes and being involved with hater and others that wanted him for what he could give or what he had. Even his own mom didnt care about what he was going through at that moment, only her unpaid rent. His baby mama wasnt taught to feel good about her self so she commenced to instilling the same negative thoughts and ideas into the daughter.Make sure you get a good proof reader.. There were a few spelling errors . I wish you luck and God's blessings.. Keep writing push forward.

This book was amazing , captivating and contained a wisdom in learning that destruction often comes before elevation . The best is yet to come . If this book is an indication of where David Weaver is in 2018 we are a witness to the further greatness of an incredible author and human being .

This was a great book! There are not many books that I have read that left me emotional but this one really touched my heart. I actually cried when Devin met his Dad. We all have days when we might go through something but you have to have faith and keep pushing. Iâ€™m so glad that he never gave up. After the dark cloud the sun really did shine again for him. I strongly recommend this book to EVERYBODY!! People can walk around with a smile on their face and you never know what they going through or been through. David Weaver I applaud you!!! Iâ€™m patiently waiting on your next great read!

I loved this story! Honestly, I don't know why or what made me choose this book, but GOD HAS A WAY OF GETTING OUR ATTENTION. Crossing paths with this book wasn't coincidental or by accident. There were a lot of lessons and wisdom in this book. It spoke of similar things that I still battle with as well. The outcome of the main character turned out well. I pray an EXTREME HAPPY ENDING for this author who took the first step to healing by admittance. I can't see God not using one of HIS GREATEST ASSETS for one of HIS GREATEST PURPOSES. After all BROKEN CRAYONS STILL COLOR!
