The planner is pretty and the monthly spreads are good. The issue I have with this planner is the weekly layout is Tuesday- Monday. So because 1/1/19 falls on a Tuesday the entire planners weekly layout runs from Tuesday- Monday...and then Sunday and Monday are little half size compared to the other days. It’s just a very strange layout for someone used to a Sunday- Saturday or Monday- Sunday planner. I won’t buy again.

She’repith hapletah – the Saved Remnant, the “few who escaped,” they were known. The Final Solution during the Holocaust was supposed to eradicate the Jewish population of Europe, literally roots and all, and it nearly succeeded. In the spring after World War II, in 1946, a group of these displaced persons met in Munich, Germany, to celebrate one of the most poignant and meaningful Passover Seders in history. In normal times, the theme of the holiday is the escaped from servitude and darkness, and looking with hope and deliverance in better times. Of course, this year, those themes would take on added meaning. The Haggadah (meaning “retelling”) used at that Seder reflected that in both traditional and novel ways.Our book actually begins almost exactly a half century later, in the spring of 1996, when a Brandeis University professor named Saul Touster was going through one of his father’s files, when a most unusual booklet fell out. Beneath a simple letter A enclosed in red and blue circles were the words “Passover Service,” with the year 1946. Within the covers Dr. Touster found pages with Hebrew type surrounded with borders that contained striking images contrasting the symbols of the Holocaust with others of the Promised Land by a Polish survivor named Yosef Dov Scheinson, interspersed with striking woodcuts depicting the toil of enslavement by a Hungarian artist, Miklos Adler, all supplementing the usual visual representation one would expect to find in a Haggadah.One of the most dramatic pages is dominated by a large Hebrew letter Beth, symbolic of the phrase “Bechol dor” (In the beginning…), the very first words of Genesis, the first book of the Torah. Here it also stands for “Brause Bad” (shower bath), as well as “brichal” (fleeing west), two themes that recur throughout this Haggadah. Other border designs incorporate images of the Promised Land and the Holocaust – on the same page! “We were slaves to Hitler in Germany,” our Haggadah opens, before going into the Seder, the order of the Passover observance. Ancestors were forced to make bricks for Pharaoh under bondage in Egypt, but the same trowels shown would (it was hoped) be used to create the foundations for new homes in the Holy Land.The high quality of the A Haggadah is fascinating in its own right, but Dr. Touster’s insightful commentary provides an invaluable context, making this excellent volume much more than a coffee table book that is pretty to look at. Much more, it preserves – through retelling – the precious memory of a history that must be told, when Passover was truly a t’shuvah, a redemption, coming home, a passing from darkness to light.

Not a traditional haggadah by any means but a very interesting book as history none the less. If you are a history buff with an interest in the WW2 era, or a collector of haggadot, put this one into your collection.I have owned (or given away or traded) a LOT of books over my lifetime. This is one book that will stay in my collection!

For anyone who is interested in either Passover, or the history of the Jews during and after the Holocaust, I recommend this book highly. It is an addition to the traditional service, and does not have a format of a start to finish Haggadah. It is more for historical value and understanding.

I bought a used copy and was so very pleased. The artwork is taken from the actual haggadah. It is impressive, a wonderful addition to any library or haggadot collection.

The content of the book is vivid and very powerful. The book itself, as printed is disappointing. Somehow I expected it to be rougher and less like a 21st century printed book. I had expected a simulation of an old book, with "woodcut" pictures and old type,

This is a wonderful book that is a guiding example of the ability for the Jews of the Holocaust to survive the incomprehensible and still not give up on their faith.

I didn't know what to expect. I wanted it for an historic document and for that it is so sad but perfect. We must not forget.

Up front: I know Jeff Wallach -- as a golfer and golf writer. So, it was with some surprise that I learned he had written a book about river rafting. When I started reading it I was certain there was no way Jeff could sustain an entire book on one summer's experience on the river. But he did, and admirably. This is a book for anyone interested in nature writing at its best. Not only are there dozens of vignettes and insights into what it's like to go on a river tour by dory, but Wallach gives a clear historical perspective of the wilderness and its endangerment as well. Would I read this book again? You bet.

Absolutely love it....just in time for all the fresh vegetables and greens at the farmers markets and my small garden....loved the boiled potatoes with mint and butter, the roasted carrots with carrot top pesto and burrata, pot roasted artichokes and white wine and capers....all really simple but heavenly delicious...perfect for how I love to eat my veggies with a creative touch.

I've had this book for over a year, and already its worn and covered in my endeavors to make homemade meals.Its beautiful, fun to read, the recipes are AMAZING, and I'm so happy I found this. Personally, I think everyone should have this book in their kitchen.

This isn't for beginners and that's what I love about it.

In an effort to eat healthier, I am always looking for good vegetable-centric recipe books. Chef Bloomfield has some great (or should I say marvelous) ones in this beautiful book. Great engaging stories help bring the recipes alive. My favorite recipes: Salad Sandwiches (I used the Heinz salad ream though), Morels w/ Madeira Cream on Toast - (great dinner paired with a simple greens salad and chilled pinot grigio); Spiced Carrots with yogurt (with brown rice); and the eggplant caponata (tossed with spaghetti and parmigiano reggiano shavings).My only critique is that a fair portion of these dishes are quite labor intensive and not really geared for weeknight meals. Having said that, a number of dishes can be stored in the fridge for several days and reheated but personally that's not the same as fresh and hot.

Love the book. Beautiful drawings and great photos but most of all wonderful vegetable-centric meals. Love reading her stories about how she learned her craft and thank you for sharing the recipes. A real gem!

I have made numerous recipes and all have exceeded my expectations! Creative use of fresh ingredients to bring out flavors and produce great tasting and looking food.

Funny, practical, self- deprecating and making you want to raise the bar in the way you think about food, from the way you buy it to the way you prepare and share it. I have over a hundred cook books and I like coming back to April's repertoire and recipes ! Enjoy!

Julius Panero, AIA, ASID, is a practicing architect, interior designer, and an associate professor of interior design at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York. He has taught interior design for the last twenty years and was the former chairperson of the Interior Design department at FIT. A graduate of Pratt Institute, where he received a bachelor of architecture's degree, and Columbia University, where he received a master of science degree in urban planning, Panero is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the American Society of Interior Designers, and a fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts, London. Licensed to practice architecture in New York, Panero is a principal in the consulting firm of Panero Zelnik Associates, Architects/Interior Designers. He is also the author of Anatomy for Interior Designers and a contributing author to Time-Saver Standards. Martin Zelnik, AIA, ASID, NCARB, is a practicing architect, interior designer, and an assistant professor of interior design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, where he has taught interior design for the last ten years. A graduate of Brandeis University, where he received a bachelor of fine arts degree, and Columbia University, where he earned a master of architecture degree, Zelnik is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the New York Society of Architects, the Interior Design Educators Council, and the American Society of Interior Designers. In examining the relationship between human dimension and dining spaces, the areas of most concern to the designer are the clearances around the table and the number of people a table of a particular size can accommodate. The clearance between the edge of the table and the wall or any other physical obstruction must at the very least accommodate two elements: (1) the space occupied by the chair and (2) the maximum body breadth of a person of a larger body size as he circulates between the chair an the wall. In dealing with the space occupied by the chair, it should be noted that its position, relative to the edge of the table, will change several times during the course of a meal. Towards the end of a meal, perhaps while the person is engaged in informal conversation or in an effort to change body posture, the chair may be extended farther from the table. As a person leaves the table, the chair may be located even farther away. Comfortable clearance should assume the chair to be at its farthest distance from the table.

I really didn't expect this book t be so great, it's a must have if you make furniture.

This book is simply awesome for people designing both furniture and buildings. Even though it does not give you details for all possible situations, it is a very well set up book that is simple to use.I give it a star less for the sloppy conversions into metric. (I would rather be interested in rounded up figures than in the exact measurements).All by all more than worth its money
