I expected something the usual small format, thick and detailed paperback guide book from DK. This is a large format, large print, hardbound book with just 72 pages. But I do like the information and photos because some I haven't seen in other books. Though I've actually been to Egypt, some info was new to me, and there's a surprising amount of detail in the 72 pages. Combined with the "Egyptology" books, it rounds out my collection, though I'm still searching for a book that focuses on the ancient jewelry of Egypt which is awe-inspiring!
I purchased this book for my 3 1/2 year old son who for some reason loves the subject matter of ancient Egypt. This book is very sturdy for his little fingers. It also has excellent information that is easy to understand. The pictures are fantastic and he pours over them in his room, at Church, at Grandmas, at restaurants...you get the point. The book also came with a fold out poster and a clip art disc. The disc doesn't have a lot of information on it, but it is a good starting point to foster future interest.I will purchase this book as a gift for anyone (any age) interested in starting research in Ancient Egypt.Also other titles in this series are just as outstanding.

I love the DK books for my 5th/6th grade gifted classroom. I have about 60 of them and they are excellent nonfiction books. Most have AR levels from about 6.0-9.0 and have 1 AR point.Fabulous pictures, great information in such a succinct book, and the kids love them.
This is a great book to add to your library. The information and presentation is clear, well organized, and captivating. Wonderful photographs on every page, with good, thoughtful, easily understood, but not too dense explanations. We bought this and the Eyewitness Mummy book for a paper my 6th grader was researching. We continuously used these books as our main sources, and he got an A plus! My seven year old daughter loves to look through the books a well. We also have Ancient Rome, and Ancient Greece. This is a fabulous series. The CD Rom that comes with it is just photographs that are in the books... would be better if it was an educational video.. that was the only disappointment. The books also come with full size posters with "bite-size" information -- this was useful as we did our note taking and editing.

I use it with a document camera to add to the Social Studies text (Ancient Civilizations). Also use DK Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Mesopotamia, Ancient China, and some others. I love DK for teaching! Leveled readers are great for struggling readers.
NICE BOOK KINDA ON THE THIN SIDE,BUT IT HAS SOME GREAT ARTIFACT PICTURES IN IT REGARDLESS OF THAT.ALL THOUGH I HAD TO COVER UP THE SCARY MUMMY PHOTOS IT'S PREETY OK.
