I have believed for a long time the Bible was written to support the rise of the Catholic Church, to guarantee and build their power. It is part truth and part untruth and untangling it is the conundrum. But I do believe the untruth has resulted in the death of many thousands of people who questioned the Church thus being called heretics. So very sad and unnecessary. Jesus was a man fathered by Mary and Joseph. He imbued the Christ Spirit and understood it. Upon death his Spirit rose, not his body...and that has been proven by the Jesus Family Tomb. Very logical and well researched book.

Along with James Tabor's latest book, this 2007 book is great documentation and presentation of the named ossuaries in recent archeological finds, details of the tomb under the new hillside home in "Talpiot", Jerusalem, in connection with the "gnostic gospels" history and "biblical" gospel stories about Jesus and his family. Together the authors provide a compelling story and we are learning a ton more than we've previously been told by the "official" story of christianity or judaism recently. But even more pieces of this puzzle will fall into place with greater insights into the history of the "place of the skulls" and other evidence from authors like William Henry, Laurence Gardner, Zecharia Sitchin and Neil Freer as to the complete history of some of our ancient ancestors, the special bloodline thru Jesus' family from the King David ancestry, the significance of the priestly and kingly lines (why the Romans hated the "Kingly bloodline" story), etc. right back into ancient Sumerian history involving UFO's, or those "who from heaven to earth came" and later "departed like migrating birds". No wonder ideas like "resurrection" and "ascension", as with "Ezekial's chariot", came out among the common and empire-hungry people of those days. Hurrah for the real "nuts and bolts" disclosures here; then may the picture go on to include the valuable insights and connections with the stories preserved within Freemasonry (Gardner records) and the others with research further back into this family line and goings on with Egypt, etc. Even Dr. Steven Greer will start to make more sense to the skeptical. . . . and we all need to understand the wide scope of this info, as our reaction to it will impact us dearly in the times ahead. . .

This subject is certainly controversial however, the book was well written and gentle in it's delivery. If you are a student of history no matter if you dispute or believe the author's conclusions you will benefit and enjoy this read.

The reviews here have hashed and rehashed to death the media controversy surrounding this book, but unfortunately for the authors, the facts suddenly fall apart the moment you step out of the authors' parallel universes. There simply is no rationale behind the book once you step back and work through 200+ year old after-the-fact evidences and the 'statistical proof' that have all the conclusions already baked in before the math is performed. The 'facts' in the book are cobbled together amongst the backdrop story of Mr. Jacobvici getting all worked up over an ossuary he was warned by a highly respected expert not to make much of. Amazingly, the authors include the wild-eyed retelling of how Mr. Jacobvici excitedly convinced himself long before any real 'investigation' that it just all had to be true. The book is very strange in that respect, but you see early on how each of the players lost their objectivity before investigating the issue. So the book seems to spend much more time telling a story about how the archaeological world got it all wrong, (that is, how revered experts dropped the ball while the untrained somehow got it right) than it does on presenting facts coherent with the conclusion. Is it possible the wild-eyed Jacobvici got it right and the establishment is involved in a cover up? Yes, it's mathematically possible. Did it actually happen here? No.There's a reason why these guys have became the laughing stock of serious archeologists and one needs only to read a portion of the book to realize the early manuscript evidences the authors tossed out in favor of other "gospels" that were written hundreds of years later were force-fit into a ready-made, made for TV splash - with companion book, of course.Anyway, contempt for the approach aside, this book does not read as a professional work consistent with the science, nor does it come off as credible. Instead, it's akin to the DaVinci Code and it would have been mildly entertaining if it was billed as a work of fiction. At least Mr. Brown's book is categorized as fiction.

This book is interesting yet very controversial. The information and assertions seem quite plausible while I recognize other scholars claim the research was not authentic and thus misleading. It is similar to Michael Baigent's book "The Jesus Papers". I read "The Jesus Family Tomb" in preparation to reading the book "The Lost Gospel" by Wilson and Jacobovici, Nov. 2014.
