Osnat Lautman's book is a pleasure to read. It's well-researched, informative, and conveyed clearly (in perfect English). Most importantly, it should prove very helpful to both Israelis and people of any other nation who would like to do business (or simply socialize) with each other. As an American who has lived and worked in Israel for fifteen years, I found Lautman's observations and advice to be sound and up-to-date.Some books (and workshops) on business culture and cross-cultural understanding tend to be dogmatic ("do this, don't do that"). Not this one! Lautman writes in the spirit of understanding, shared goals, and goodwill -- which are the key to success in any business or personal endeavor, whether cross-cultural or when you're dealing with your colleagues and customers at home.Highly recommended!
As an Intercultural practitioner, I find this book as a very insightful piece of work, solely dedicated to the Israeli business culture. It goes to greater depth than the usual “do and don’tâ€. A truly valuable resource for readers who would like to explore and discover the deep roots of the Israeli work style.More specifically, the models presented by the author could serve as a very useful tool in the process of figuring out WHY Israelis behave the way they do. It describes the values and the mindset beneath their actions and helps to develop more empathy and understanding while working with them. The research part is not too ‘heavy’ as it is written in an easy to understand language. It also filled with various humor anecdotes which helps to illustrate the cultural gap between cultures and provides guided solutions how to overcome those gaps.In short, I highly recommend this book to those who want to gain more influence and achieve better results while working with the Israelis. If you are eager to learn new strategies and acquire best practices to deal with Israeli people, this book will serve you well. I would also like to recommend this book to any Israelis who are keen to develop a deeper awareness on how their own collective personality impact the way they do business with others.
This book comes at a perfect timing for me, as I work with companies to understand how cultural differences can slow, or even prevent, building TRUST in team. It also comes at a perfect time as more and more American companies acquire startup companies in Israel, or build local facilities there to tap into Israeli talent and ingenuity. I lived the first 33 years of my life in Israel, and the past 20 in the US, and can relate so much to the cultural details provided in this book. Author Osnat Lautman provides a great research-based guide to understanding the ISRAELI business culture that would help both American companies' efforts to establish presence in Israel, and Israeli companies working outside Israel's borders. Misunderstanding and mishandling cultural differences could be dramatically detrimental to companies building business across Israel's borders. Reading this book should be the first step in avoiding those.
If you travel to Israel or work with Israelis colleagues and clients, I recommend that you read this book. The concept of understanding the history and values in order to later understand the behaviors of Israelis really intrigues me. In my travels I find that people in other countries do not view many things in the same way that I do. Towards the end of the book the author also writes about mindfulness and cultural intelligence -– these two topics are essential for understanding yourself and others.
I bought this book to better understand both sides and to implement methods that will work for synergy between multicultural teams. this book is great for that! sheds a light on how to act.
This is a worthy book. We all talk about culture and how it varies in different countries. This work compares the Israeli culture to other cultures around the globe. It includes a lot of research and real stories. It was a big eye opener for me as an Israeli, to better understand not only other cultures but also to better understand myself.
