I love Brendan Kelso's versions of Shakespeare and Dickens. They are perfect for kids 8-13. Gets them ready for high school when they read the real stuff. I've directed several of Brendan's books for small casts of kids in theatre workshops. Two Gentleman is funny and well-edited.

A wonderful book in an ingenious series!I am not currently teaching but taught 4th grade and my students would have absolutely loved this series!I would recommend for upper elementary through high school as Kelso translates ancient puns and phrases into captivating and humorous language students can understand.I laughed my way through the book and thoroughly enjoyed this particular story. I was not familiar with the original as I was with more well known works like Hamlet and Macbeth, but feel I could provide a summary better now than I could have from reading Shakespear's version!It's an excellent way to incorporate drama, the classics, and fun reading info the classroom! Highly recommend.

I received a free review copy of this book.This is a decent introduction to the weirdness of Shakespeare for a young audience! If you can follow who's in disguise and why, and who's lying about what to who, you'll have a good grounding in what to expect from more adult literature! The lines make it pretty obvious - ad libbing and breaking the fourth wall are encouraged. I will admit, as the players point out in this version, that Julia gets stuck with a cheating loser in the original. Luckily, the kids won't let their play end that way!I liked the different versions included for different group sizes, although I was surprised that the other romantic rival doesn't appear if there aren't enough people! Evidently, the dog is more important than Thurio's plot.

I just can't say enough awesome things about Kelso's Two Gentlemen of Verona. For me, the best part is the accessibility of the text! Kelso get's right to the meat of the story and brings the poetry of Shakespeare to kids (and several laughs for the grown-ups). As a theatre director, I've worked with high school students as they stumble through Shakespeare's actual text and I've worked with middle school students with Kelso's Playing with Plays Shakespeare and had more success with the later. I had kids lining up to participate in Kelso's Shakespeare plays instead of picking their own monologue or duet scene to perform in. Two Gentlemen of Verona continues to deliver the same wit, easy text interrogation, and versatility of Brendan P. Kelso's other Playing with Plays Shakespeare scripts. I also love the Sneak Peak of three other scripts at the end! If you're looking for new ways to introduce Shakespeare, or classic literature to your students or kids I highly recommend Brendan P. Kelso's Playing with Plays seriers!

What I have really come to love about this series of books is how fun it can be for younger kids as well. I have three, the youngest being six. She is starting to read pretty well and books like these allow her to learn a classic story in a way that she can handle and actually enjoy. Even better the kids are able to read to each other and the older ones have fun with the added nuances from the author. The little ones will love it even more. That is part of the beauty. You don't really need a stage. All the world is a stage! The length of the books are just long enough to capture the story while keeping the kids attention, which these days is not easy task. Well done overall. Definite buy.

Once again, Brendan Kelso brings Shakespeare to life in the most captivating and entertaining ways! Last year I taught Hamlet, Macbeth, and Midsummer to our 1st-5th grade homeschool co-op students, and they loved it! This year I'm tracing Tempest, Julius Caesar, and Romeo and Juliet. I'm going to use Two Gentlemen of Verona with our middle schoolers to study alongside Romeo and Juliet so they can contrast the two plays! The banter of Two Gents is hilarious to read even as an adult, and makes me fall in love with Shakespeare all over again - and you will too!

I am a huge fan of the entire Playing with Plays Series, and this is one of the funniest in the collection. At first, I had some reservations due as I am not a fan of Shakespeare's. Never fear, Kelso handles this in a clever way which sparked an excellent discussion with my children regarding the respect for women. These books are fun and educational. Don't hesitate to buy them for your children 8 and older!

I love, love, love the feel of fine linen. I was eager to begin reading this book in anticipation of lavish illustrations of sumptuous linen from decades past. Instead, the book spends a lot of time discussing the evolution of the fabric itself: from plant, to loom, to bed or plant to table. The author uses prints of advertising cards, paintings, etc...to illustrate weaving techniques, marketing, etc... of different types of fabrics since their creation presumptively because no examples exist (not sure?). The photographs that are included are very nicely done. Would have rather seen more photographs of textiles/linen than copies of handbills, ads, paintings, and sketches. Contact information for the linen houses that were discussed and that are still in existence would have also been a plus.

..and not only beautiful but very useful as well. I've yet to find another one about linens so well written and packed with information. I'd like to learn more about fabrics, but the books I've purchased after this has been pretty disappointing because very little they mentioned is not in this book.The Book of Fine Linen covers a wide selection of fabrics made of linen, cotton, silk. And emelishments: weaving, embroidery, print. The author explaines how these fabrics had been used throughout history and how they evolved.The picures and paintings in the book are very relevant illustration of the text, but they are also a visual feast to the eye, they are gorgeous. It is a delight just to flip through the book and it would be great on the coffee table or as a gift.

Although this book has beautiful historical pictures and stories, it can not be used as a reference. It appears to be a favorite collection of the writer and shows few examples of design. I had hoped to see multiple examples and comparsions of hand work.

This book was recommended in a newspaper article about fine household linens. My husband cannot resist buying antique table linens, so I thought this would be the bible of linens, of certain interest to him. He is very impressed with the photographs and the amazing facts about linens over the ages--George Sands' trousseau containing no colors on napkins except for luncheon napkins, for instance. The book is a handsome volume with wonderful photos, chock full of information. The Amazon price was a nice savings, too.

Beautifully illustrated book! Large format, loaded with information!

This book is so beautiful and interesting, but this is my second copy from Amazon. It looks like many of the pages have light grey ink or solvent drops of various sizes, possibly a poorly printed run. They do not look like they are a part of the artist’s design at all. They are in the same places in both copies of the book. We are a family of professional artists and None of us can make any sense of it. I haven’t called to return this second book because mainly I am just so confused by it. Has anyone else had this experience with their copy of this book? Is it meant to be this way? The splattering and drops are not attractive and are even on otherwise black pages in the book. It’s a strange situation in an otherwise gorgeous book.

My parents own an apiary so when I saw this picture book I had to get it for my kids. The illustrations are huge, most are like vintage natural science charts. The text is very small at the bottom of the pages, kind of crowded. It might be difficult for younger kids to read because of the font size and layout is different from how the text in kid's books is normally spaced. However, this is an awesome book to read with kids or simply for adults who enjoy honeybees. I can't wait to show it to my parents.

Absolutely LOVE this books it’s a large format and so beautifully illustrated. But it’s not just illustrations, it’s filled with such great info. I actually threw this in my cart as a last minute addition to get free shipping, and I didn’t plan on using it for several weeks but my 4 year old saw it and became obsessed! So happy with this purchase!

I am a hobby beekeeper so giving rhis 5 Stars is a big deal. I have a library of over 80 bee books and this is one of my favorites. Great for kids and adults.

I bought this book for my wee grand niece & she devoured every word & illustration, now she adores bees!She is age 3 but good book for all ages:)

I am not finding the access card

Do not buy the E version of this text book I've spent multiple hours online with both intuit and amazon and neither of them can help me. I'm dropping the class and talking a different course.

It may not be clear, but it seems that this book does not include the access code as advertised. Just and FYI to those looking to purchase the book for a class.
